Marie Cuper
started working with clay a decade ago when she moved to Southern Illinois
while her husband attended college. She took her first ceramics class
at the Craft Shop, which was a resource for non-art students to take
art and craft classes. Quickly falling in love with clay, Marie enrolled
in Southern Illinois University at Carbondale taking ceramic and other
art classes. While at SIUC, Marie was able to take advantage of a two-professor ceramics program and experimented with gas reduction, raku,
wood and salt firing. Before leaving Illinois, Marie returned to the
Craft Shop as a teacher.
Marie has been John's assistant at Kissimmee River Pottery for over
three years while maintaining her own studio space creating functional
pottery and jewelry.
Marie will
be teaching the Tuesday evening pottery class from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
